DESIGUALDADE E PERSISTÊNCIA DA FOME COLETIVA NO BRASIL

Abstract

The pandemic in Brazil has exacerbated the already alarming hunger situation, which was present even before the COVID-19 crisis, as a consequence of the attacks that the working class has suffered in recent years, particularly in the realm of social protection policies. This article aims to discuss collective hunger in Brazil, based on the results of the First and Second National Survey on Food Insecurity in the Context of COVID-19 in Brazil. The article begins by contextualizing the work carried out by the Brazilian Network for Food and Nutritional Sovereignty and Security (Rede PENSSAN) to then present some broader data that demonstrate the reality of hunger in Brazil. Next, we delve specifically into the results of the First and Second surveys, which reveal in various ways the presence of hunger in Brazilian households. By relating these results, it is possible to understand that the increase of more than 14 million Brazilians living in hunger is the perverse result of the deepening social inequality stemming from the dismantling of public policies.
