The kunhãs in the city: body-territory in resistance

Abstract

This review analyzes the book De Almas e Águas Kunhãs (2023), by Marcia Wayna Kambeba, highlighting the importance of the concept of body-territory to reflect on the experiences of indigenous women in Brazil, especially in urban contexts and in institutional politics. Kambeba's work, based on a poetic and purposeful writing, addresses the resistance of indigenous women in the face of coloniality, problematizing historical symbols, linguistic expressions and imaginaries that perpetuate violence against their people. By narrating trajectories of struggle and resistance, Kambeba affirms the importance of collectivity, ancestry and indigenous culture in the construction of new horizons and in the appreciation of traditional knowledge in a Brazil that still remains subordinate to the original groups.
