Abstract

This article deals with the teaching of History in secondary education from 1892 to 1920, in the State of São Paulo, from the analysis of curricula developed by teachers Gymnasio of the First Capital and their final exams. It is intended, from the questioning of conceptions of history of that period in dispute, to understand how historical knowledge was disseminated by the school (in the case of the First Capital Gymnasio) and what mechanisms were created to verify the knowledge imparted to students in a learning situation. One aim, through dialogue with the perspective of the history of school subjects, Chervel (1990) and Goodson (1997), grasp the constitution of historical knowledge in the curriculum emphasizing their prescription process, transmission and verification of learning of historical knowledge in schools. It is used as primary sources for such research programs of teaching history from 1897, produced by Professor Joseph Valois de Castro (professor of gymnasio), the final exams for the History of Brazil and Universal produced by students - as a requirement required for approval in junior high school at that time, from 1910 to 1920.

Professora adjunta no Departamento de Ciências Humanas (Licenciatura Plena em História), da Faculdade de Formação de Professores (FFP/UERJ), na área de Estágio Supervisionado em ensino de História. Coordenadora de Área do Pibid/UERJ vinculada ao Grupo de Pesquisa Oficinas da História desde 2013. Professora permanente do Mestrado Profissional Interinstitucional - ProfHistória (UERJ).
