Abstract

Summary

This paper is a section of the doctoral dissertation on the history of the emergence of children's and youth literature in Mozambique in which we discuss the extent to which child and youth games and play, considering their purely linguistic framework, have an unending trend in these age groups demonstrating a playful, sensitive and cultural preservation purpose. The methodology that supports this research is the bibliographic review in which the starting theoretical framework that highlights Huizinga (1980); Prista, et al. (1992) and Colonna and António (2014), Alves, and Gnoato (2003) provided valuable data on the typology of games and play, their utility and their relation to culture. Although it is one of the multilingual and multicultural countries, the results show a tendency to encourage the practice of some traditional games and games in the education system, contributing beyond sociability, playfulness, sensitivity and cultural preservation.
