Abstract

This article analyzes the involvement of the German immigrant Antônio Pospissil (1830-1906) and his son Antônio Pospissil Júnior (1867-1906) in the political life of the State of Paraná, between the years 1885 to 1903. The purpose of the article it is to produce knowledge about the participation of immigrant families in the party scene of this state, in the context from de Empire to the Republic. There are three arguments presented in this analyzes. First, evidenced is given that, in the final years of the Empire, the bond with the leaders of Conservative Party of Paraná allowed Pospissil to win public office. In the context of the administrative hierarchy of the Province of Paraná, such positions were not politically relevant. Second, evidenced is given that, at the beginning of the First Republic, a member of this family established connections with new characters on the state political scene, especially the workers. Third, it should be noted that belonging to the ruling party implanted in Paraná, in the early 1890s, made it possible for the Pospissil to remain in the public office filling schemes. The exercise of commissioned functions and the eventual performance of mandates consisted of the limits of the participation of a member of this family in the political life of Paraná during the First Republic.
