Based on documents produced by the American diplomatic missions in Brazil, this article explores the evaluation that United States government officials produced about the Legality Movement in August/September of 1961. The theme allows us to go further in the understanding of the relations between the United States and Brazil and in the role of Varguism (during Vargas’, Kubitschek’s and Goulart’s administrations) during the political shocks in the decades that preceded the 1964 coup.Downloads
