Political historian or historian political? Interactions between institutional and intellectuals experiences of Baron Guajará

This paper analyzes the relationship between political experience and intellectual Domingos Antonio Raiol (1830-1912). Representative of the High Imperial hierarchy, Raiol acted as President and parliamentarian Provincial, being welcomed in 1883 with the title of Baron of Guajará. Raiol divided its activities between the executive and legislative branches of the Empire, and also produced works on the history of his native province of Grão-Pará. Some of his works represent an interesting way to understanding the interaction between politics and intellectuals in the context of the Second Empire. Thus, this paper investigates the links between the historical production of Baron Guajará and political experiences of this Bachelor of Law, during the second half of the nineteenth century, institutional context of successive crises, stabilization and decline of the monarchist regime in Brazil.
