This article aims to understand the perspectives of students seeking stricto sensu postgraduate studies in the current context, as well as to discuss the performance of public and private universities to remain in the society where the free market gains notoriety with each passing day. In short, we can say that both students and universities are experiencing a period of marked neoliberal economy, a situation that tends to promote countless uncertainties in the general population. As a result, some people, after completing higher education when looking for new opportunities, need to dedicate their studies to a public or private institution. This choice arises, also due to the economic condition of the students, due to the possibilities of relating daily work to graduate school and the proximity to the place where they live. Therefore, to understand these pluralities of perspectives between the institution's relationship and its supporters, we used a bibliographic survey based on the area of Education and Social Sciences combined with methodologies: participant observation and semi-structured interviews, aiming at qualitative research.
