In this paper, we take advantage of the celebrations around the 60th anniversary of Michel Foucault's work History of madness, which took place in 2021, to deepen the reflections around the Foucaultian project and propose an analysis about the production of madness during the Brazilian Civil-Military Dictatorship. Anchored in the archeogenealogical perspective, we seek to understand the creation of the “political madness” and the “political madman” given the relationship between political/social resistance and madness by the forms of incarceration in asylums and reformatory/concentration camps. From the analysis of a set of utterances, which includes reports of victims, documents produced by repression, and academic and journalistic works, we identify and delimit three forms of the “political madman” inside a repressive device: the “subversive madman victim of torture”, the “subversive madman”, and the “crazy avoider [obstacle]”.
