This study aims at establishing a theoretical and methodological dialogue between the Undisciplined Applied Linguistics, as posited by Moita Lopes (2013; 2006) and the teaching of Literature in Brazilian public schools. I propose an ethical approach to the teaching of Literature, one whereby teaching and learning practices are based on empowering, productive, humanizing literacy literary sequences focused on enabling students to read and construe meanings. Based on studies that disavow a crystallized, hegemonic thinking as found in a knowledge-producing academic model, the Undisciplined Applied Linguistics dialogues with a transgressive proposal for teaching literature, by suggesting possible literary practices that can both occur in several classrooms of Brazilian public schools on a daily basis.
