KNOWLEDGE-POWER IN BIOLOGY TEXTBOOKS
CONTRACEPTIVE METHODS AND WOMEN'S RESPONSIBILITY
Keywords:
sexuality device, textbook, discourse analysisAbstract
Taking the textbook as a cultural artifact, we undertook an exercise in the discourse analysis about the sexuality device, in regard to the approaches of the contraceptive methods theme, in the Biology textbook from the High School which were approved by PNLD. We started from the questions: what truths are produced in and by the Biology textbook about the contraceptive methods and its use? Does the Biology textbook works as a place of authority and of truths production about women’s responsability in regard to contraception? There is an evident association between sexuality and human reproduction, exempt from questioning about the necessary distinction and approximation between these concepts. The female’s responsability is related in the discourse on contraceptive methods, with the reinforcement of the medicine’s role in this choice process.
