THE SELF HELP INTERDISCURSIVE CROSSING IN THE LITERARY DISCOURSE FROM PAULO COELHO

Abstract

This article is a cut from my Master's dissertation guided by Professor João Bosco C. dos Santos. My goal here is to show how the literary discourse, more specifically the work The Alchemist, by Paulo Coelho, is crossed by the discourse of self-help. Through the analysis of the work’s statements in question, we realize that the discourse of self-help is present in several moments as the central character, Santiago, finds himself distressed or unmotivated. In this way, it is noticed that the discourse of self-help arises to encourage and motivate the boy not to give up on his dreams. In our view, this discourse constitutes aesthetically the literary discourse, marking the actions of the hero.
