Delimitation of protected areas of Jaguari river upper watershed (SP) from the municipalities covered
Permanent protection areas included in the international category of protected areas have important eco-hydrological functions, such as geological stability, ecosystem maintenance, guarantee of human well-being and water conservation. In Brazil, they are defined by Law number 12.651/2012 which after being reformulated have presented significant changes. With the expansion of cities and human activities, it becomes relevant researches related to the identification of these areas by mapping to obtain knowledge about the territory for the adoption of public policies. Thus, the research aimed to delimit the protected areas of Jaguari river upper watershed and characterize the conflicts of land use and occupation through Geographic Information Systems and the adoption of a Hydrologically Consistent Digital Elevation Model. As a result, some challenges were found as subjectivities in Law number 12651/2012 and the necessity to establish standards in the criteria for the delimitation of protected areas.
