TERRITORIES AT RISK AND THE ANALYSIS OF THE CURRENT USE OF THE LANDS OF THE DISTRICT OF SANTO ANTONIO DO RIO VERDE, IN CATALAO (GO)

Abstract

Agricultural activity, as a sector that depends heavily on natural resources and biological processes, is in itself a risk. The exploitation of natural resources resulting from the use and occupation of land in an unsustainable way has generated several environmental impacts and part of them, discussed in this research, are in the district of Santo Antônio do Rio Verde, in Catalão (GO). The current analysis had as methodology the geomorphologic studies carried out by Ab'Sáber (1969), to evaluate how the relief and the type of soil, together with the varied technologies in machinery and inputs, made possible the vigorous cultivation of soy and corn, in greater demand, in this area. Remote Sensing and Geoprocessing techniques were used for the elaboration of maps, in addition to documentary and bibliographical research. Threats to the footpaths, erosion, silting up of the water courses, loss of biodiversity, hydric compromising due to contamination and central pivot supply, are only some of the countless environmental problems detected in the District. The recovery of already degraded areas and the conservation/preservation of those that still survive the unrestrained invasion of agribusiness is an emergency.
