PROMOTING ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION AT THE FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF UBERLÂNDIA: solid waste and sustainability

Abstract

This article was structured based on a questioning about the role of Environmental Education and higher education institutions in the construction of sustainable environments, contemplating an investigation about the actions developed by the Federal University of Uberlândia in favor of the environment. It was found that, despite the institution being considered a pioneer in the conduct of selective collection, there is still an inadequate disposal of solid waste, especially in the stage of separation at the generating source, impairing the efficiency of the system and the work of local waste pickers' cooperatives. Based on the analyzed data, an E.A. project was designed to contribute to the separation in the source of the waste, also contributing to the activities developed by the cooperatives of waste pickers that work in the city of Uberlândia.
