INTERPRETATION OF EXPERIENCES EXPERIENCED BY EDUCATORS OF THE PAULO CÉSAR VINHA SETTLEMENT - CONCEIÇÃO DA BARRA (ES) WITH THE FIELD AND THE CITY FROM THE CONCEPT OF GEOGRAPHICITY BY ERIC DARDEL AND THE SOCIOLOGICAL CATEGORIES OF THE “HOUSE” AND “STREET” BY ROBERTO DAMATTA

Abstract

The present study was carried out in the context of the Paulo César Vinha Settlement, which is located in the municipality of Conceição da Barra, in the Northeast micro-region of the state of Espírito Santo. Its objective is to interpret the experiences lived by educators with the countryside and the city from the concept of geographicity, by Eric Dardel, and the sociological categories of “house” and “street”, by Roberto DaMatta. To this end, the study benefited from Participant Observation, which involved informal conversations and conducting semi-structured interviews with eight educators of young people and adults in the countryside. Based on the adopted theoretical-methodological conceptions, the study showed, on the one hand, that educators live the countryside as a “home”, attributing meanings of peace, tranquility and affection to the experiences lived in this space; on the other hand, the research participants experience the city as the “street”, attributing meanings of insecurity and danger to this space, in addition to considering the city as a space for commerce and an opportunity for academic training.
