The territory of the Metropolitan Region of Campinas (MRC) is part of the contact zone between the Atlantic Plateau and the Peripheral Depression in São Paulo, offering very different conditions for the appropriation of the soil relief. The present work aims to classify the landscape in the MRC into geoenvironmental and geosystemic units and analyze them in order to make a characterization. Using Geographic Information Systems and map algebra, representations were produced in digital form to address this objective, where 9 geosystemic landscape units were identified as under the influence of urban and rural anthropogenic systems with remnants of native vegetation. Analyzing the classifications, it is inferred that the predominant geoenvironmental units in the study area are rural systems in the depressions compartment, in phytophysiognomies of ecotone/enclave contact and wet climate. This classification has the possibility to contribute with researches and actions related to urban and environmental planning as well as to expand the geographic knowledge of the study region.
