The concept of landscape formed an important part of the constitution of Geography. Landscape forms a material and objective reality, with visual and perceptual characteristics, but also with content and functioning. As a spatial category, it has become a link between academic knowledge, environmental planning and the management of natural systems by society, with an important contribution from cartography. Considering the contemporary environmental problem and the demand for development of methodologies for environmental planning, this work aimed to collaborate with the consolidation of systemic and geoecological conceptions for landscape studies. We did this by presenting the theoretical-methodological points of view adopted by the Center for Environmental and Coastal Studies (NEAL) applied to the case of environmental systems of the Costa das Baleias (BA). By the discussions, we make explicit the importance of systemic conceptions in landscape studies and contextualize the Geoecology of Landscapes in this kind of production. Moreover, through the case study proposed, we apply some of these precepts, illustrating the approach of the landscape as an environmental system, represented cartographically and presented spatially in its functional, dynamic and transformative aspects, emphasizing contributions to planning. Thus, we corroborate the importance of the theme of landscape cartography for environmental planning.
