Abstract

The research had the intention to study the sociospatial conditions that promote and provide (or not) mobility and accessibility of the residents of the "João Domingos Netto" housing estate, in Presidente Prudente - SP, to the major consumption areas of the city. Among the results obtained, we highlight that, in João Domingos Netto, the trade and services activities, in large part of the cases, are being carried out in the residential lots. In addition, the delimited establishments are insufficient to meet the population consumption needs. The municipal public power and the public transport companies assess that the citizens who live there have mobility and accessibility not only to have access to the major consumption areas of Presidente Prudente, but also to all areas of the city. Considering the citizens vision, and the results obtained as a result of other procedures realized, we concluded that the João Domingos Netto residents have low mobility and accessibility, which deprive them of fully experience the urban life and, therefore, of having access to the practice of the "right to the city", adopting the accepted expression by Henri Lefebvre.
