The present work is the result of discussions carried out during the course of the subject “Territories at Risk: effects of the appropriation of space by large projects” which was taught by Prof. Dr. Vicente de Paulo da Silva within the scope of the Postgraduate Program in Geography of the Federal University of Uberlândia. In which we decided to present the historical and current problems of the district of Antônio Pereira, located in the municipality of Ouro Preto/MG. In order to understand the processes that have taken place with this community affected by mining, we seek to understand, from a literature review, the historical and economic formation of the district, as well as the social construction that led the community to its current circumstances. The aforementioned site has suffered the impacts of mining since colonial times in Brazil, however since 2015 with the breakup of Fundão, in the municipality of Mariana, they began to suffer not only the consequences but the publicity of the possible rupture of the Doutor Dam located in District. We observe that despite the difficulties the community faces, it has positioned itself and resisted the onslaughts by Vale SA and the omission of the municipal government.
