A COLLATION BETWEEN JOÃO BOSCO’S CARTOONS IN THE LIGHT OF BAKHTIN AND THE CIRCLE

Abstract

This article analyses the discourses present in the cartoons of João Bosco (JB), “Deforestation in pandemic” (08/02/20), “Deforestation increases” (08/09/20) and “Burning in the Amazon” (08/26/22), having as object the dialogical relations between the denunciation of the environmental destruction in opposition to the official discourse present in the governamental actions that priorized deforestation in the period of the Covid-19 pandemic. For the analysis, the concepts of: ambivalence (BAKHTIN, 2002); responsive and libertarian laughter (BAKHTIN, 2002; 2017); authoritarian discourse (BAKHTIN, 2015); violence of the word and image in absence (BAKHTIN, 2020); and semiotic-ideological conception (BAKHTIN, 2003) were summoned under the methodological guidance of collation (BAKHTIN, 2003). The comparison reveals the dialogue built between the discourses updated by the responsive laughter, by the ambivalence between the trunk (forest) and the cross (human), and by the voice in defence of the environment.
