This article analyzes the initial chapter of the textbook Se Liga na Língua: reading, text and language production, by Ormundo and Siniscalchi (2018), for the 7th year, in order to verify how the multimodal resources act in understanding the concept of discourse and in the construction of meanings in the reading process. Therefore, the theoretical assumptions of the Enunciative-Discursive Theory were adopted (BAKHTIN, 2003). The analyzes showed that the activities explore the understanding of the concept of discourse and the construction of meanings, since the corpus has: 1) a profusion of genres, allowing the student to interact with them and critically experience and reflect on different communicative situations; 2) a stimulus for the student to interpret the non-verbal semiotic resources of the texts and produce them.
