Abstract

Sexuality is part of our lives and a constant theme within the arts since primitive times. Recent events related to art exhibitions and performances have brought to the center of debate issues associated to the limits of art and freedom of speech. Inserting itself in this context, this work aims to analyze the exhibition Histories of Sexuality displayed in MASP from 10/20/2017 to 02/14/2018 in the light of Michel Foucault’s Arqueology of Knowledge (2016) and the New History. The exhibition will be taken as a statement in order to establish its associated field, the conditions which allowed its emergence in the scenario in which it was inserted, and the effects of meaning produced by it in Brazil’s recent scenario.
