A DISCURSIVE ANALYSIS OF LOVING RELATIONSHIPS IN LITERATURE

FEMALE REPRESENTATIONS

Abstract

This paper aims to reflect about the meanings related to women in romantic discourses of Contemporary Brazilian Literature. For such, we have developed our analyzes from the perspective of French Discourse Analysis (AD), since it gives us tools to go beyond what is in the surface of the text and get to what is in the level of the unconscious and the symbolic. For our analysis, we have selected excerpts of fours works of Brazilian literature published in the twenty-first. From such findings, we have realized that romantic discourses reveals male supremacy, woman-blaming and other forms of women's oppression and that while the discourse about loving relationships have changed over the years, the meanings about woman are still the same as the dominant discourse, which says she must submit to man.
