Abstract

The thematic inclusion “History and Afro-Brazilian Culture” in LDB/96 is an attempt to raise awareness of the white population, through education, the values of Afro-descendant culture, and the serious problem around black, seen as “eccentric”, “different”. In the current conjuncture are several manifestations of combat racism, one of them is the popular music. In this work, our objective is to analyze through the melody “The hand of the cleaning”, of Gilberto Gil, the way the subject-position is presented in terms of racial prejudice. The result showed that the subject position in a musical representation symbol contributes greatly in the fight against racial issues by the ingenious way, that the author establishes in the relation of otherness, inscribing himself in the other, the “center” to speak of himself, the “eccentric” signaling the selfishness and injustices that have culminated in the social gaps that need to be repaired.
