Abstract

In this work we draw a reflection on the production of historical narratives from the news media, making considerations about the production of meanings derived therefrom. From the genealogical perspective of Michel Foucault, we first problematize the relation between censorship/interdiction, control and wills of power in the construction of historical regularities and in the production of real effects; we start from the counterpoint between the "power struggles" and the "class struggle" invoked by Foucault in his course The punitive society and we reflect on the emergence of historical narratives. In the end, as an analysis example, we pick statements produced by the written press about school occupations by high school students that occurred in Brazil in 2015 and 2016, to verify that the news and historical narratives are constituted as much by the possibilities as by the prohibitions of saying.
