Abstract

The present research proposes to analyse statements made by politicians and strategically re-announced by the newspapers O Globo and Extra. Considering that reported speech is one of the enunciative conditions of the media information, this phenomenon is problematized, based on the Semiolinguistic theory, by the analysis of the strategies that underlie it in the press. Thus, this research focuses on a corpus of reported statements based on news about the same facts and whose sources of information are political figures. The results show that the strategies used produce meaning-effects which reveal the speeches reported may not be faithful to the original statements. This means that in both newspapers a greater engagement attitude arises by the establishment of a certain polemic regarding the media event.
