Abstract

This article shows a study from the analysis of foreign language textbooks. In this, we analyze the book Alive! in the perspective on the use of discourse genres cartoon and comic strips. The investigation took place from document analysis considering Bakhtin’s theory of language, subject, dialogism and discourse genres. The results suggest that the use of these types of genres can lead students to position themselves as critical subjects in the society where they live in as well, can serve as tools to teach vocabulary, grammar items and reading skills and reading comprehension.
