Abstract

The intention of this study is to report how the verb kill comes in different statements, using mostly metaphorical expressions collected in everyday language. For this, we take as corpus the chronic The verb kill, by Carlos Drummond de Andrade, a text which lists the use of this verb in everyday circumstances form by portuguese speakers in Brazil. In this context, we approach some Bakhtinian conceptions of language, in an ideological, dialogical and multi linguistic system. It was necessary to further dialogue with authors such as Fanti and Brait. Through great writing of Drummond it is possible to employ Bakhtin’s concepts about language and its plural-social attitude, promoting through metaphorical enunciation a very particular feature of chronic: irony.
