Abstract

This work intends to reflect the construction of female identity from the look of the character Capitu, in the literary works Dom Casmurro (1983), of Machado de Assis, and Capitu (1993), of Lygia Fagundes Telles e Paulo Emílio Salles Gomes. We intend to analyze the look of the character Capitu, considering it an instance discursive and identity in the contradiction between submission and freedom, that pervades Capitu. The character's look replace the speach, which means and produces meaning through silence. To better talk about the subject, will sustain the present analysis in theoretical postulate of discourse analysis of the French line, based on mainly the theoretical postulates of Mikhail Bakhtin (1997) and Michel Foucault (2005).
