ANÁLISE E MAPEAMENTO GEOLÓGICO, GEOMORFOLÓGICO, PEDOLÓGICO E HIDROGRÁFICO DO MUNICÍPIO DE SANTO ANTÔNIO DO MONTE, OESTE DE MINAS GERAIS, BRASIL

Abstract

The municipality of Santo Antônio do Monte is located in the western geographic mesoregion of Minas Gerais, forming part of the São Francisco hydrographic sub-basin. The region has been experiencing problems of environmental degradation due to the population and economic growth that occurred from the previous century to the present day, showing a visible need for public policies aimed at its sustainable development. Among the different reasons that lead to this situation, we can identify the lack of in-depth studies about the geological, geomorphological, pedological and hydrographic history of the municipality. In order to try to minimize this described situation and contribute to the generation of data and actions by the public power, which is proposed in this study, using secondary databases, map and analyze the geology, geomorphology, pedology and hydrography of the municipality of Santo Antônio do Monte. As conclusions, we suggest that studies of this type be increasingly encouraged throughout the São Francisco river basin, in order to generate databases capable of contributing to the proper management of this important river in the whole Brazilian territory.
