Small cities with low productive diversification in the South and Southwest of Minas Gerais state, can be characterized by the coffee agribusiness. Into this study, the planted area expansion sugarcane over coffee would be responsible for the unemployment increasing in Divisa Nova city, with precarious structures, a low job supply in the face of the mechanization from the countryside and several social problems heading the rural exodus. So this way, Alfenas city, a micro-region hub, has been presenting itself as an outlet for workers who move themselves daily, searching for jobs and also to access some services. With this research, the historical process from the regional polarization became evident, clearly to state policies that failed to provide economic diversification in Divisa Nova city and then affecting their daily lives, as well as the search for measures to solve the issues they must deal nowadays.
