Abstract: The constant changes in cities over time have contributed to make the urban space even more complex, a fact that has demanded both researchers and managers new perspectives and approaches for understanding this reality. In this context, we present elements that demonstrate the importance of urban morphology as a possibility for study and analysis of cities, especially in relation to the transformations within the urban territorial configurations. Increasingly, there is a tendency towards the territorial dispersion of cities, without necessarily having a territorially continuous occupation. Considering these aspects, we analyze the city of Itumbiara, in Goiás state, from some elements that compose the study of urban morphology. The results show that certain logics of urban space production are also present in medium-sized cities in the interior of the country, even in non-metropolitan contexts, highlighting problems and challenges for urban planning and management.
